The 807 oscillator transmitter used on the PW net this morning is similar to what we built to talk around town in the 1950's...picture and schematic attached. A couple of turns near the top of the plate portion of the tank coil is coupled to the antenna.
Another two turn coil placed over the grid portion feeds a carbon microphone. RF energy in the tank circuit provides voltage to the carbon element, and voice information in the RF field modulates the carrier, albeit, at a very low modulation percentage. The carrier output is near a watt.
